Get to know Melissa,

Owner of MBodied Strength

NASM CPT, GGS Menopause Specialist

At MBodied Strength, we know women's struggles and strengths.

I am inspired by my mother, who gave it her all to give us a better life. Leaving an abusive spouse, my mom did everything she could to make ends meet, even if it meant learning new skills and working 16-hour days. She’s my hero, but she’s also my cautionary tale: she taught me that women’s work isn’t endless sacrifice and pouring from an empty cup.

Now it's my turn to teach you how to take better care of YOU. So you can be the leader your people need. Proper self-care makes it possible for you to give your best, in all the areas of your life that matter.

What Clients Say About Us

I’ve worked with Melissa and her team at MBodied Strength for a better part of 3 years. She is extremely professional, motivating and works with clients on their specific needs rather than bringing a “one-size-fits-all” approach as many fitness professionals do. Her encouragement and expertise have helped me look and feel tremendously better. Thank you, Melissa!

— Ruchika Tulshyan, Seattle

I trained with Melissa before and during my first pregnancy, until 2 weeks before I gave birth. Six years later, she opened MBodied Strength, just as I was looking for help to exercise again. It's been 18 months now, and I feel stronger and more confident that I ever have. I feel they are truly dedicated to meeting you where you are and helping you achieve your goals. The team at MBodied Strength have made me someone who no longer dreads a workout. I even look forward to it!

— Carli Rogosin, Holland

I have loved my experience at MBodied Strength. Over the two week intro program there was so much personal attention and thoughtful listening to my story, it honestly felt like a therapy session. I was really impressed by their inclusive approach that is sensitive to body/weight hangups and facilitates setting goals on your own terms. I am already feeling comfortable doing things I've never done before like working with weights. I'm so glad I decided to invest in myself by starting personal training!

 FAQs

  • Women have been playing small for too long. We’ve been told to be skinny, not to get bulky or masculine, and not to ask for power or money. Nope. It’s time women get strong, and here’s why:

    — Strength training is a game-changer for confidence, longevity, and mental health. Not only does it build stronger bones, reducing the risk of osteoporosis, but it also enhances functional fitness, preventing injuries and providing resilience for a quicker recovery.

    — For women, strength training is crucial for hormonal balance, promoting better mental well-being and stress management. Additionally, it contributes to an elevated metabolism, aiding in weight loss and achieving that coveted “toned look”.

    — As a Women’s Strength Trainer, I emphasize the importance of incorporating strength training into your fitness regime for holistic well-being.

  • No, quite the opposite. Here’s why:

    — If you’re new to lifting weights, a group fitness class brings a lot of new movements and not nearly enough personal attention to your form.

    — Additionally, those programs are created for the masses, not for your personal goals. In a Personal Training setting, individualized attention allows for a customized fitness plan, addressing specific goals such as weight loss, strength building, or overall well-being.

    — The focused guidance from a Women's Strength Trainer ensures proper form, reduces the risk of injury, and maximizes results.

  • Strength training, guided by one of our Certified Strength Trainers, accelerates weight loss in women.

    — It boosts metabolism, burning calories during and after workouts.

    — This, coupled with Small Group Training and Fitness Coaching, ensures effective, targeted exercises, contributing to a leaner physique and achieving weight loss goals in a supportive gym environment.

  • Contrary to the myth, strength training won't bulk you up.

    — Utilizing the proper rep scheme and program, women find they actually slim down.

    — Personalized workouts in Private or Small Group Training focus on toning and sculpting, promoting a lean physique.

    — Proper Fitness Coaching ensures tailored exercises, emphasizing strength without gaining excessive muscle mass.

    — It's about achieving a fit and defined look, not bulkiness.

  • We want to make sure we’re the best fit for your goals and needs.

    — We want to honor that this is a significant decision that you are making.

    — It’s important that you fully understand the program and see the value in our work.

    — It also helps you to feel the benefits of working in a small group, giving you a taste of the community and accountability inherent in our culture.

  • Personal Training, whether you choose Private or Semi Private Training, is customizable to your goals.

    — First, we provide a comprehensive assessment of your goals, movement, strength and cardiovascular fitness.

    — Next, we write you a personalized program that incorporates corrective exercises, flexibility and balance training, and a core-first approach that helps reduce injury.

    — We work on traditional lifting techniques, but tailor them to your abilities and goals.

    — If you need nutritional support or guidance around movements outside of your sessions, those are also available.

    — Finally, we are always adjusting and improving your program, giving you the next step so you don’t plateau or get bored.

  • Yes and no. If you have been experiencing persistent joint pain or you are recently injured, please see a doctor to rule out anything serious.

    — That said, once you’ve been cleared for exercise, get moving. As soon as things feel a little better, most people quit doing their pt homework and the injury recurs.

    — We collaborate with your doctors to create a comprehensive program that includes their advice, and we provide the kind of accountability they just can’t offer.

    — This increases your compliance with their advice, which keeps you moving forward with your strength, instead of always repeating the same cycle of injury-recovery-reinjury.

  • Yes, men are welcome too! Sure, we want to create a comfortable environment for women to train, but we have many male clients who love us. Here’s why:

    — We foster a non-competitive culture, which is very appealing to men who want to come in and just take care of themselves without all the machismo.

    — Training together creates a supportive network! Many of our male clients are referred to us by their female friends and family, and when your community is focused on healthy habits, it’s much easier to stay the course.

    — Our male clients notice the progress of the women we train, and they want that for themselves. Honestly, if you know your spouse is getting strong and not injured, wouldn’t you want that for yourself?

    — Most men just want to come in and get an honest sweat, without all the toxic-masculinity and sexism inherent in male-centric gyms.
